Chemistry & Uses
Uses in perfumery :
Aldehyde C-20 is used in all types of perfumes, for fruity notes, tutti frutti, red fruits, banana, ambery and chypre notes. Allows to nuance rosy, orris root and violet notes.
Year of discovery :
Data not available.
Natural availability :
Aldehyde C-20 is not available in its natural state.
Isomerism :
Aldehyde C-20 has several asymmetric carbons. However, it is a mixture of its isomers that is used in perfumery. Aldehyde C-16, also called Strawberry Aldehyde, is a positional isomer of Aldehyde C-20. Both have a fruity smell, but Aldehyde C-16 smells more like strawberry.
Synthesis precursor :
Aldehyde C-20 is not a precursor to the synthesis of another compound of olfactory interest.
Synthesis route :
Data not available.
Stability :
Coloration issues in perfumes and various alkaline bases
Other comments :
In comparision to Aldehyde C-16, the latter is more reminiscent of strawberry and less of the fruits represented by Aldehyde C-20.
