Dimetol® is used in diverse floral notes (rosy and lavender over all), in citrus, woody and tobacco notes.

Synthesis route :

Dimetol® can be synthesized by a Grignard reaction between 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one and methyl magnesium chloride. A reduction of the by-product obtained is then necessary, by catalytic hydrogenation (with platinum for example).

Stable in perfumes and diverse functional bases, except very acidic bases

Dimetol® has a smell close to other alcohols as Linalool, because it has a very similar structure as this last compound.
